Are You Satisfied That I Am Dead? - Chapter 4: Day One (Part Three)

“What do you mean the young lady has died!?”

The person who had just shouted and went pale-faced was the Luce’s very own accountant, Shezam Bermann. Shezam has been serving the Count since his grandfather's time, and has long been in charge of the family’s fortune on behalf of its military-obsessed Lord of the house.

Upon receiving the news, Shezam got up from his office chair. He gradually fell to his knees, sitting with his feet trembling.

“This is it... Everything’s doomed now...”

In haste, he pulls a drawer after drawer, stacking all sorts of papers onto his desk. These documents were all signed by Llorona herself.

“Now that the young lady is gone, no one would be willing to lend us money anymore…!”

With a wailing cry, Shezam shoved the bundle of documents into his bag as he rolled out from his office.

“I have to report this distressful situation to the Count as soon as possible. This is the end for the House of Luce!”

Shezam knew already that the House of Luce was heavily debt-ridden. The Count barely expresses his interest in the matters of his own home but military-related affairs, and is rarely seen at the estate in favor of training drills.

Everything was so much better during the war.

The greater the contribution, so do the rewards. Additionally, you receive grand tributes from the noble families as well.

However and ironically, the House of Luce that once brought peace to the country has now fallen penniless.

It would have been fine if he had lived moderately and committed to his duties like a normal nobleman.

In addition to their significant rewards, they were expected to be a family that produces royal descendants in the long run, and yet...

“They don’t know anything... They don’t...”

Shazam roughly wipes his already welling up sweat and tears.

“Anyway, it might still be possible. If the young lady’s death could convince him, then perhaps--”

Even though that wish may not come true, Shazam rode his horse onwards to the villa the Count was using for his training drills.
