Anchor Effect - Chapter 16.2: Too Sudden

Yu Xiu had colleagues, seniors, and acquaintances from work, but he didn't have true friends.

"What friend?" Yu Min asked. "Didn't I tell you not to make friends casually?"

"You've met him," Yu Xiu said calmly. "He used to shoot a Spring Festival magazine cover with me."

At this point, Yu Xiu raised his gaze and glanced at Ye Yuchen, who happened to be looking at him. He asked in a low voice, "Does your mom still remember me?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone again, and after a moment, Yu Min uncertainly asked, "Is his last name Ye?"

"Yes," Yu Xiu nodded in Ye Yuchen's direction.

Yu Min asked a few more questions, including Ye Yuchen's year of study and his major. Then she added, "If I remember correctly, he should be related to your Dean Zhou."

"Yes," Yu Xiu replied.

"Alright," Yu Min's tone relaxed. "Don't be late, and tell him to drive safely."

"Okay."

Although Yu Xiu followed Yu Min's arrangements in his work, in many other matters, he didn't pay much attention to her attitude.

For example, he liked comfortable dressing, but Yu Min found it not stylish enough. And he enjoyed eating stinky tofu, but Yu Min thought it didn't match his image.

He should wear what he likes and eat what he enjoys, never expecting his preferences to be approved by Yu Min. However—

When Yu Min tacitly allowed him to interact with Ye Yuchen, which inexplicably brightened his mood.

"Does everyone in your family have such good memory?" Ye Yuchen took a big bite of half an egg, puffing up his cheek.

"My mom is my manager after all; she remembers everything related to work very clearly."

Yu Xiu didn't mention why he remembered because he couldn't bring himself to say, ‘I was deeply impressed by the handsome brother.’

Fortunately, Ye Yuchen didn't press further. He quickly finished the egg and said, "Let's eat quickly and head out."

The Bumblebee was parked conspicuously in the hotel's underground parking lot. Yu Xiu felt a bit cramped as he sat in the passenger seat, given his height of 1.85 meters.

"You should adjust the seat backward," Ye Yuchen observed Yu Xiu's legs not fully extended. "Du Rui sat here before, and he's shorter than you."

Yu Xiu glanced to the lower right and reached out to find the seat adjustment button but couldn't locate it after fumbling for a while.

"Move it backward." Ye Yuchen, who was afraid of city traffic, saw that Yu Xiu was still struggling, so he proactively turned around. He propped one hand on the headrest of the passenger seat and reached for the seat adjustment button on the side of Yu Xiu's leg, pushing it backward.

The power seat moved backward, allowing Yu Xiu's bent legs to finally stretch out.

In this position, Ye Yuchen looked at Yu Xiu and asked, "Do you need it to move back further?"

The two were very close, and Yu Xiu could even feel Ye Yuchen's breath brushing against his cheek.

He nodded unconsciously as he looked at Ye Yuchen's eyelashes, but as soon as he realized it, he shook his head and said, "No, it's just that the seatback is a bit upright."

Ye Yuchen adjusted the seatback again, creating a bit more distance between their noses.

"Indeed, you're a big star," Ye Yuchen teased, and he casually fastened Yu Xiu's seatbelt. "I have to take care of you."

Yu Xiu turned his head to look out of the window and muttered, "Thank you."

The Bumblebee continued along the coastal road, with pleasant scenery on both sides that refreshed the soul.

There weren't many cars on the road on Sunday morning, and sometimes they wouldn't see another car for a long time, making it feel like the whole world was left with just the two of them.

"Do you know how to drive?" Ye Yuchen chatted with Yu Xiu.

Yu Xiu didn't say he couldn't; he just replied, "I'll learn after finishing the next movie."

The car windows weren't closed, and the two enjoyed the sea breeze while chatting idly. Time passed quickly, and Yu Xiu felt like it hadn't been long when Ye Yuchen drove the car back to the city center and stopped in front of the hotel where he had an audition.

Dong You didn't go to the school's back gate to pick up Yu Xiu. Instead, he came to the hotel and waited there.

When he saw Yu Xiu getting out of the stylish sports car, he immediately approached. While taking the backpack from Yu Xiu's hand, he slightly bent down and greeted Ye Yuchen, who was sitting in the car, "Hello, Xiao Ye, I'm Yu Xiu's assistant."

Yu Xiu continued, "He's Uncle Dong."

Ye Yuchen hadn't planned to get out of the car, but seeing an elder greeting him, he stepped out of the car and nodded to Uncle Dong from behind the car roof. "Hello, Uncle Dong."

"Hey, hello!" Dong You smiled and said, "I heard you're already in your third year, while our Xiao Xiu has just started his freshman year. If he doesn't understand anything in the future, please help him out."

Ye Yuchen wasn't familiar with the man, so he simply replied with a "Sure."

But after replying, he looked at Yu Xiu and deliberately called out, "Xiao Xiu."

Yu Xiu averted his gaze, and no one noticed that his ears were slightly flushed.

"Then, we'll head inside first," Dong You said. "Be careful on your way back."

The three of them parted ways, and Ye Yuchen was about to get back into the car when Yu Xiu suddenly stopped him and asked, "Are you going back to school now?"

"Yeah," Ye Yuchen replied. "What's up?"

"Do you have something to do at school?"

"Sleep."

Yu Xiu contemplated for a moment and said, "Since you don't have anything to do, do you want to come with me to the audition?"

"Huh?" Ye Yuchen didn't understand Yu Xiu's meaning. "Are you asking me to wait for you and then give you a ride back later?"

"No," Yu Xiu clarified. "I mean going upstairs for the audition to see if there's a role suitable for you."

Understanding Yu Xiu's intention, Ye Yuchen was taken aback and instinctively leaned back. "Isn't it too sudden? Did they allow me to audition?"

"I just mentioned it," Yu Xiu said.

But Ye Yuchen hesitated and said, "But I don't even have a resume."

"It's not necessary," Yu Xiu replied.

"But..."

“Ye Yuchen”, Yu Xiu interrupted him. "Are you afraid?"

One thing Ye Yuchen couldn't stand most was when others looked down on him, especially when it was someone like Yu Xiu.

He slammed the car door shut, tossed the keys to the parking attendant, and said, "Let's give it a try."
