Anchor Effect - Chapter 18.1: I'm very cheap

When Ye Yuchen arrived at the hot spring resort by shuttle, the girl at the front desk was dozing off.

The off-season already meant few tourists, and since most visitors preferred soaking in the hot springs at night, there were hardly any people around in the spacious resort this afternoon.

An elderly man who was cleaning wanted to wake up the girl, but Ye Yuchen waved him off, indicating there was no need.

He walked straight to the outdoor hot spring pool shown in the picture, but when he got there, he didn't see Yu Xiu anywhere in the various pools of different sizes.

[Ye Yuchen: Where are you?]

Yu Xiu didn't immediately reply, so Ye Yuchen decided to wander around the resort.

There were relatively fewer indoor hot spring pools compared to outdoor ones, and most were private pools for booking by guests.

Ye Yuchen soon spotted a slightly open door to a private pool. He slowed his pace, walked up to it, and glanced inside. He saw a well-known celebrity sitting with his back to the door, busy replying to WeChat messages.

[Yu Xiu: Room 808]

[Yu Xiu: Is this a KTV here?]

Ye Yuchen's phone rang twice, and Yu Xiu inside the room turned his head when he saw Ye Yuchen. Their eyes met briefly for a second, and then Yu Xiu turned his gaze away.

"Hello," Ye Yuchen walked into the room and closed the door behind him.

"It seems like you don't care much about the ban," Yu Xiu remarked, tossing his phone onto a bathrobe by the poolside.

"No," Ye Yuchen replied. "I just wanted to relax."

He sat down by the pool, taking off his sandals and rolling up the cotton trousers to his knees before dipping his feet in the water.

Maintaining an arm's length distance between them, Yu Xiu glanced at Ye Yuchen's legs, then retracted his arm from the poolside.

"You've finally become worth several million," Ye Yuchen lazily swirled the water with his feet. "Do you not find it a pity to return to your roots?"

"It's okay," Yu Xiu said. "This was never the job I wanted."

Ye Yuchen suddenly stopped moving his feet in the water. He didn't ask why Yu Xiu still pursued this career because he could probably guess why.

Back when he had proposed the breakup, Yu Xiu had held some resentment toward him. Now that Yu Xiu had reached the pinnacle of his acting career, a height he couldn't achieve, perhaps this was Yu Xiu's way of getting back at him.

Of course, Ye Yuchen didn't think too highly of himself, believing that Yu Xiu had been holding onto thoughts of him all these years. Perhaps he simply believed that acting brought in more money than being a screenwriter.

With these thoughts in mind, Ye Yuchen chuckled self-deprecatingly. "It's just that I remember your endorsement fee was only two million when we first met."

Yu Xiu's tone grew heavy. "You better not bring up the past with me."

Well, it seemed that there was still a lot of resentment there.

Ye Yuchen knew he couldn't provoke his ex-boyfriend, so he changed the subject to the real reason he had come. "Do you know that Shao's old man is seriously ill now? When he dies, it won't be difficult for you to make a comeback."

Shao's old man was actually Yu Xiu's biological grandfather, but Ye Yuchen knew Yu Xiu wouldn't acknowledge that relationship, so he deliberately avoided that term.

"I know," Yu Xiu said. "The people from the Shao family are already vying for the inheritance, both openly and secretly."

"Do you not have any thoughts on this?" Ye Yuchen casually asked.

Yu Xiu fell silent for a moment and then asked, "What? Are you here to be my wealth advisor now?"

Wealth advisor was one of the main professions of the Ye family.

If Ye Yuchen remembered correctly, when they broke up, Yu Xiu didn't understand these things at all.

"Did you investigate my family?" Ye Yuchen asked.

"Not really," Yu Xiu adjusted his position in the water, allowing it to cover his neck. "I was just curious about how wealthy my ex-boyfriend's family is."

"Do you find it regrettable?" Ye Yuchen couldn't help but tease. "You finally got yourself a sugar daddy."

"Ye Yuchen," Yu Xiu sat up again, suddenly exposing most of his chest, which naturally made people glance a few more times.

But with a stern look on his face, Yu Xiu seemed angry, so Ye Yuchen didn't dare to look for too long. Instead, he pretended to be unconcerned and started splashing the water with his legs.

"So, you came to talk about the Shao family's inheritance?" Yu Xiu's tone calmed down as he asked.

"No," Ye Yuchen looked back at Yu Xiu. "Do you know the current status of Old Master Shao's illness? Once he passes away, it won't be difficult to help you make a comeback."

"I don't know," Yu Xiu replied briefly and didn't engage further, as if he had no interest in the topic at all.

"...You really don't care about your future at all," Ye Yuchen said.
