Anchor Effect - Chapter 9.1: I'll Be Embarrassed
Neither of them had a satisfying dinner, and Ye Yuchen ordered takeout again, bringing Yu Xiu to his own dormitory.
The dormitories in the family housing area were all spacious two-bedroom apartments, and Ye Yuchen had more than enough space for himself. One room served as a bedroom, and the other as a rehearsal room. Among the students living on campus, only he, as a "royal relative," could enjoy such treatment.
"I heard that Director Zhou is your uncle," Yu Xiu said while changing shoes.
"Yeah, what's up?" Ye Yuchen asked.
"Nothing," Yu Xiu casually mentioned because Ye Yuchen had not inquired thoroughly enough.
The speech script was backed up in the cloud, so Yu Xiu only needed to open his phone.
He had foresight and took his phone to the balcony. As soon as he turned it on, the system prompted countless missed calls.
In less than two seconds, another call came in. Yu Xiu pressed the answer button and preemptively said, "My phone fell into the water earlier. I can only turn it on now," without waiting for Yu Min's questioning.
Yu Xiu's learning ability was actually quite strong. Since Yu Min could easily find an excuse to appease others, he could also find a random excuse to appease Yu Min.
"...Is that so?" Yu Min's anger was forcibly suppressed, "Be more careful next time. If there's a problem, get a new phone."
"Okay."
"Remember to audition at the end of the month. Don't get too tan."
"Okay."
After a brief conversation, Yu Xiu returned to the living room with his phone. By this time, the snacks from the takeout had arrived. Ye Yuchen took a can of beer from the fridge and asked Yu Xiu, "I don't have any soft drinks here. Would you like milk?"
"Milk?" Yu Xiu pursed his lips and showed a hint of displeasure in his eyes. "No, thanks."
The offended look on his face amused Ye Yuchen. "Well, then you'll have to settle for plain water."
Yu Xiu glanced at the can in Ye Yuchen's hand and said, "I'll have the beer."
"Didn’t you refuse to drink alcohol a while ago?" Ye Yuchen asked.
He indeed didn't want to drink earlier, but the situation had changed.
"I'm already of legal drinking age," Yu Xiu said.
"Alright." Ye Yuchen brought back two cans of beer to the coffee table and handed one to Yu Xiu. "Did your phone really fall in the water?"
"No," Yu Xiu took the beer, "I just didn't want to answer my mom's call."
Ye Yuchen smiled and said, "You're just like my mom."
Yu Xiu instinctively thought that Ye Yuchen was talking about their mothers being similar, but then he felt something was off and asked uncertainly, "Your mom?"
"Yeah, she's traveling, and she can't be bothered to answer my calls," Ye Yuchen said. "Once, her excuse was that her phone fell into the sea."
"I see," Yu Xiu said thoughtfully, "I envy you."
"You envy me?" Ye Yuchen was almost speechless. "If my mom cared about my career as much as yours does, would you still be this year's best newcomer?"
"I'm just nominated; I might not even win," Yu Xiu said. "Besides, it's my mom's career, not mine."
Watching Yu Xiu's modest appearance, Ye Yuchen couldn't resist teasing him. "You don't know yet, do you? This time, you're just the companion runner-up. The winner is that...that someone else."
Ye Yuchen hadn't done his homework and couldn't even say the names of the other nominees. However, this casual remark surprised Yu Xiu.
"Is that so?" Yu Xiu let out a sigh without much reaction. "If I'm the companion runner-up, then so be it."
"You don't have confidence in yourself?" Ye Yuchen suppressed a laugh and couldn't bear to tease further. "I'm kidding; you're the one who won."
Yu Xiu didn't believe it and looked at Ye Yuchen seriously. "Now you're the one lying to me, right?"
"No, it's really you. My uncle said so. If I'm lying, I'm a dog," Ye Yuchen said, raising the beer can to toast Yu Xiu. "Here, let's celebrate in advance."
Yu Xiu hesitated for a moment, then clinked his beer can with Ye Yuchen's and took a sip. However, as soon as the beer touched his lips, he coughed violently.
"Is this the first time you drank alcohol?" Ye Yuchen handed him a tissue.
Yu Xiu didn't respond, but his silence gave away the truth.
"You really haven't had alcohol before?" Ye Yuchen looked at Yu Xiu, who was now showing signs of being drunk, and said with a smile, "I feel like I'm corrupting a kid."
"I'm not a kid," Yu Xiu wiped the beer from his lips with ease and changed the subject. "Aren't you supposed to help me with the speech script?"
Reading a one-thousand-word speech only took five minutes, and it appeared even faster.
But perhaps due to his competitive spirit, Ye Yuchen meticulously examined each word and sentence, trying to find areas where he could provide feedback.
However, he underestimated Yu Xiu's writing skills. The speech script was just as good as his own, if not better, with only a hint of pride missing.
Ye Yuchen handed the phone back to Yu Xiu and gave an honest assessment. "It's really good."
"I took some inspiration from yours," Yu Xiu put away his phone. "Did you write your script yourself?"
If someone like Du Rui or Gong Hao had asked, Ye Yuchen would have definitely said he bought it, as he didn't want to appear too serious about it.
But facing Yu Xiu, he didn't have such reservations and said, "Of course, I wrote it myself."
"Your writing is very good," Yu Xiu said.
"You seem surprised?" Ye Yuchen raised an eyebrow. "I got into Zhugang University's Film School through regular admission."
Yu Xiu was indeed a bit surprised because Ye Yuchen seemed like a typical playboy, driving his sports car around campus without considering the noise it caused to others, as if he took the attention for granted.
However, Yu Xiu knew he couldn't say such things. He took another sip of beer and gradually got used to the taste. "Why were you in a bad mood earlier?"
