Anchor Effect - Chapter 26.2: I don't eat people
The elevator had stopped on the first floor, and as soon as Yu Xiu pressed a button, the elevator doors opened to both sides. Ye Yuchen had only just uttered the word "you" when Yu Xiu had already stepped into the elevator. Ye Yuchen had no choice but to enter as well, and the elevator doors closed at that moment.
"It's not possible," Ye Yuchen said, "You need to understand, this is my home."
"Why not?" Yu Xiu leaned against the wall of the elevator, arms crossed, and tilted his head, asking.
"Because I'm a light sleeper," Ye Yuchen offered a legitimate reason. "Any noise can disturb my sleep."
Ye Yuchen hadn't lied; not only noise but even changes in lighting could disrupt his sleep.
But little did he know that Yu Xiu's next words would leave him speechless. "Is that so? You slept quite soundly in my arms just now."
Ye Yuchen: "…"
He wished he hadn't given a reason at all.
From the first floor to the third floor, it didn't take much time to ride the elevator.
Yu Xiu was the first to step out of the elevator, then he turned to look at Ye Yuchen and asked, "Shall I go to bed first and wait for you?"
"Yu Xiu," Ye Yuchen walked out of the elevator with a furrowed brow and a serious tone. "I didn't invite you to sleep with me."
"Aren't you supposed to be supporting me?" Yu Xiu asked.
"Well, I also like sleeping alone."
"Oh? Afraid old feelings might reignite between us?" Yu Xiu chuckled softly.
Ye Yuchen realized that Yu Xiu truly understood him.
In the past, considering his temperament, he would have likely accepted such a challenge without hesitation.
But times had changed, and these little tricks no longer worked on Ye Yuchen.
"If you don't feel like going back," Ye Yuchen said, raising his chin slightly and pointing to the empty guest room next to his bedroom on the third floor, "there's a guest room on the third floor. You can use it."
With that said, Ye Yuchen went back to his room and closed the door.
Even though he didn't think Yu Xiu would do such a thing, he still locked the door, just in case.
The room had excellent soundproofing, and once the door was closed, the world outside seemed to grow quiet.
However, perhaps because Ye Yuchen was listening attentively, he still heard faint noises.
Yu Xiu had gone to the adjacent room, and his footsteps grew quieter, probably as he headed straight for the balcony. He seemed to be looking at the view there. After a few minutes, the faint sound of footsteps resumed, but this time he walked over to the bed. After that, there was complete silence from the neighboring room.
Once he was certain that Yu Xiu had gone to bed, Ye Yuchen, standing quietly behind the door, rested his forehead against the door panel and let out a heavy sigh.
He still couldn't resist Yu Xiu.
If he had been more resolute, Yu Xiu wouldn't have stayed the night in the villa.
Well, whatever. It wasn't a big deal.
Ye Yuchen shook his head, went to the bathroom to freshen up, changed into his pajamas, and lay down on the bed.
Now the world was completely quiet, but Ye Yuchen still found it difficult to fall asleep.
It wasn't because Yu Xiu was sleeping next door and making him restless. Rather, he had already slept for two hours in the audiovisual room earlier, so he simply wasn't tired now.
After lying in bed for a while, his brain became even more awake instead of sleepy. Ye Yuchen decided not to force it and got out of bed, heading downstairs to the dining room.
He wasn't really hungry, but nights when he couldn't sleep were perfect for eating.
However, the fridge was stocked with fruits and vegetables, and there was nothing substantial to eat. After a brief search, Ye Yuchen found only milk and plum wine.
In the end, he chose milk because it was known to aid sleep.
As he poured the milk into the frother and waited for it to heat up, Ye Yuchen took out his phone and dialed his older brother Ye Bingkun's number.
