Anchor Effect - Chapter 4.2: He is not qualified
"He seems to be your junior." Du Rui looked at the news on his phone and then said to Gong Hao, "He applied for the director department."
"Him?" Gong Hao frowned and glanced at Yu Xiu in the crowd, “Can anyone just become a director?”
"At least he has already made proper films," Du Rui said sourly, having only directed short films while Gong Hao was the director.
"Apart from that 'Father Don't Leave Me', what other good works does he have?" Gong Hao took the basketball from Du Rui's hands and threw it into Ye Yuchen's hands, "The reason why he acted so well in that movie is that he doesn't have a father."
"Tsk, it seems to make sense, because he doesn't have a father, so he can empathize with the character." Du Rui said and searched on the phone, "So who is his father?"
The commotion on the boulevard gradually subsided. Ye Yuchen and Gong Hao played ball for a while, and Du Rui on the side couldn't find any reason for it either.
However, he found another thing and interrupted the two who were attacking and defending: "Do you know that he was nominated for the best newcomer for this year's Golden Orchid Award?"
Ye Yuchen was distracted, but Gong Hao found a gap and swayed over. He looked at Du Rui, took a slow breath, and said, "Nomination does not mean winning."
"That's still pretty cool." Du Rui put away his phone and asked, "Do you want to draw him into our circle?"
Ye Yuchen, Du Rui, Gong Hao, and their friends who often got together all belonged to the same circle - the second rich generation. In short, they all had some background at home, and no one dared to mess with them at school.
"His mother is a star, can she be considered a second-generation star?" Du Rui said again.
Gong Hao didn't express his opinion but asked Ye Yuchen, "What do you think?"
"No." Ye Yuchen snatched the ball from Gong Hao and scored a three-step layup, "He's not qualified."
The basketball fell from the sky and landed in front of Ye Yuchen. Instead of picking it up, he picked up the sports bag under the basket.
"Hey, what's the matter, aren't you going to fight?" Du Rui asked.
"My uncle asked me to look for him at this time," Ye Yuchen said, "You guys are playing; I will go there first."
Seeing the time came to the dean's office, Ye Yuchen knocked on the door symbolically and turned the doorknob directly: "Uncle."
"Xiao Chen, come here," Zhou Changyong put down the pen in his hand and beckoned to Ye Yuchen, "Come and sit, let me tell you something."
"Is there anything that can't be done through a call?" Ye Yuchen sat down on the reception sofa, with his upper body casually leaning against the back of the chair, as comfortable as at home.
"It's like this," Zhou Changyong clasped his fingers together and said leisurely, "Last month's centennial school celebration, you were arranged to speak as a student representative, right?"
"Yes, what's the matter?"
"Now, as for the candidate," Zhou Changyong paused, "there was a slight change."
Ye Yuchen frowned lightly but didn't show much emotion: "Become who?"
"Yu Xiu." Without waiting for Ye Yuchen to answer, Zhou Changyong continued, "Although he has just entered school, the thing is, this year's Golden Orchid Awards, the few newcomers who competed with him have no chance, that is to say, he will most likely be the best rookie of the year."
——The "big probability" mentioned by the director of Zhugang Film Academy, Ye Yuchen knew that it was "100%."
"The school's centennial anniversary was a significant event, and of course, the grander, the better. Your senior brothers and sisters who came back to attend the celebration were all well-known figures. You know the importance of the Golden Orchid Award, and among the current students, who has ever received it? So, Yu Xiu was the perfect choice as a student representative."
Zhou Changyong's words were without any apparent issues, but upon dissecting the underlying logic, he was essentially saying: "As a student representative, Ye Yuchen wasn't qualified, but Yu Xiu was."
He was a young man in his early twenties, and Ye Yuchen's emotions shown easily on his face.
Zhou Changyong knew it would turn out this way, and he comforted, "I know you've been wanting to act in movies all these years, but your mom wanted you to lay a solid foundation first, which isn't a bad thing. Think about it, you'll definitely get top-notch resources, and if you don't perform well, how will the public react? So, you don't need to rush or compare yourself to Yu Xiu."
In this statement, Ye Yuchen heard another implication: "Your acting skills aren't quite there yet; you should hold off on your debut for now."
In reality, the Best Newcomer at the Golden Orchid Awards had included exceptionally talented young individuals as well as latecomers to the acting scene, but Ye Yuchen didn't feel much about it.
However, seeing a greenhorn from the same school, who had just entered their freshman year, win the Best Newcomer award did leave him somewhat irritated.
Ye Yuchen tugged at the corner of his mouth, looking displeased. "I've already prepared my speech."
"That's alright," Zhou Changyong said, "Since you and Yu Xiu will be in the same industry, constantly seeing each other, why not let him take a look at your speech for reference?"
